Sel the Sasquatch knelt at the edge of the pond. He started at the reflection of the full moon on the calm surface of the water, and contemplated. A reflection. Why did calm water reflect, while so many other objects simply melt into the darkness? he thought.
Suddenly the reflection broke and shifted as the enormous foot of another Sasquatch stomped around in the water. Its Mac, of course its Mac thought Sel, but he was hoping for someone else.
“So you wanted to meet. I’m here. What is new?” Asked Mac. His body was like a mountain of hair rising from the water. Mac placed his hands on his hips, losing patience every passing moment.
Sel was still kneeling. “There are new incarnations of old mysteries,” Sel said simply.
“Yes, but can you be more specific?” Mac said. His voice had a bit of a growl to it.
“Smoke without lightning,” said Sel. “Small spears with feathers. Clearings in thick patches of forest. Footprints with little toes.”
“Oh great,” said Mac. “You believe in Smallfoot now?”
