What would be the opposite of an impulse?
If an impulse is sudden, its opposite would be gradual.
If an impulse is instinctive, its opposite would be planned or perhaps something unplanned that contradicts all organic instinct, a product of artificial unintelligence or byzantine bureaucracy.
If an impulse drives one to act, its opposite would surely drive one to sit around and do nothing.
Anyway, whatever the opposite of an impulse might be, it was what happened on my way here when ten or so TTC streetcars and buses, including the one I was seated in, were all standing in line, unmoving, in the vicinity of Sumach Street.
